Organised by Grapevine Event Management, these awards celebrate the vibrant and thriving business communities of Torfaen, Monmouthshire, and Blaenau Gwent. They provide a wonderful opportunity to recognise the dedication, innovation, and achievements of local businesses over the past twelve months. We have been nominated for two key categories: Employer of the Year and International Business of the Year.
The Nominations and Why We Have Been Nominated?
Employer of the Year
Our nomination for Employer of the Year reflects our commitment to our employees and the supportive environment we provide. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including dental insurance, company pension, flexible working options, medical insurance, health and wellbeing programs, a cycle to work scheme, and enhanced maternity and paternity leave.
Our work environment is positive, with good people, flexible and hybrid working options, and a fun yet hard-working culture. The atmosphere is relaxed and chatty, fostering open communication and camaraderie.
Training is a priority, with a six-month probation period and many opportunities for learning through courses and mentoring from experienced staff. New employees are welcomed warmly and supported extensively during their first weeks. Our recruitment process is continuous, providing ongoing learning opportunities and career growth within the company.
We also offer student internships across most teams, collaborating with Local universities to provide 12-month internships that give valuable experience.
Ben Warren, a Project Engineering Intern, shared his experience: “My first few weeks at Blackwood Engineering as an engineering intern were exciting and interesting as I adapted from university routines to work routines. Everyone was extremely welcoming and helped me settle into the role. The job has taught me many things already, and it’s great to start applying what I have learnt on my degree to real-life scenarios. So far, my internship has been great, and I am looking forward to the rest of the year.”
International Business of the Year
For International Business of the Year, we highlight our global reach in supplying counterweights and castings worldwide. Our primary markets include Europe, such as the UK, Germany, Italy, and Ireland and the USA.
We maintain strong relationships with foundries across China and India, with dedicated team members stationed close by to ensure consistent communication and collaboration. Our UK account managers and engineers also visited China recently to maintain familiarity and strengthen partnerships with partnered foundries.
Our strategy to grow overseas is driven by the efforts of our Commercial team, Customer Account Managers and Business Development Executive, who travel extensively to meet customers throughout Europe. Their work helps us meet and exceed customer expectations, sharpen our strategic focus, and expand our international presence.
We are committed to improving our export performance by working closely as a team with supply chain, engineering, and finance departments to ensure smooth and efficient processes.
Conclusion
We are honoured to receive these nominations, which reflect the hard work and dedication of all our teams across every site. This recognition is truly a joint effort, driven by teamwork, communication, determination, as well as a little bit of fun…Of course!
